Impact of Electronic Media on Reading Habits of Faculty Members

A CASE STUDY OF BLDE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, BIJAPUR

Abstract

The paper attempts to explore the impact of electronic media on reading habits of one hundred twenty five faculty members of BLDE college of engineering, Bijapur and highlights the use of different type of electronic media. It is observed that there is no association between sex and type of electronic media used. It also finds that the faculty members use e-resources mainly for promoting reading habits (41.6%), enhancing the general knowledge (30.4%), analyzing research project (63.2%) and analyzing the research data (55.2%) presentations and project works. Further it is found that electronic resources have made the great impact on reading habits of faculty members (74.40%). It has been suggested that Library staff must adopt modem library organizational framework for maintenance and preservation of the electronic documents.

Meteorology: A Bibliometric Study

Abstract

The paper presents bibliometric analysis of literature on ‘Meteorology’ from 2006 to 2009 as available in the database ISI Web of Science . A total of 1651 articles were collected related to the subject meteorology for the study. Data was analyzed with respect to authorship pattern; chronological distribution; geographical distribution; institutional contribution and channels of communication. The results shows that the highest number of articles were contributed by multiple authors, which is 844 articles i.e. 51.14% of the total articles, the highest number of articles were published during the year 2009 i.e. 461 which constitute 27.92% of the total articles, United States of America has the largest number of publications contributing 626 articles i.e. 37.91% of the total articles.
